TIME TO MAKE A PLAN-Financing the new you

posted by tim

Many people want surgery and they want it now. So they come in for a consultation and get excited about the transformation that will take place, but fail to plan how they will pay for the surgery. Financing your surgery is an excellent option if you want to make payments instead of paying cash up front. There are several companies that provide financing for plastic surgery procedures and many of the companies require no money down and offer a variety of payment plans. However unlike a house or a car it is quite hard for a financing company to repo a tummy tuck or a behind augmentation once you have had surgery, so they tend to be stricter when it comes to lending for these type of procedures and the interest rates tend to be higher.

Before you decide to set-up your consultation appointment you should determine if financing will be an option for you. If you want to increase your chance of getting financed follow these steps:

Step 1-is to know your credit score from ALL 3 CREDIT REPORTING BUREAUS. Make sure you get the scores directly from the credit reporting agencies to ensure accuracy. The fee is minimal and it will save you a lot of heartache and disappointment.

Most of the financing companies require you to have a good credit score. Nowadays that means in the mid to upper 600 range.

Step 2-Your minimum gross monthly income should be at least $2000 a month and it must be verifiable. Cash only income probably means they will not finance you.

Step 3-You should have at least 2 years of established credit history with no open collections, unsatisfied judgments or tax liens showing on your credit report.

Step 4-No bankruptcies in the last 3 years

Step 5-Make sure to include All income that comes into the household and helps pay the bills where it ask for total household income.

Step 6-It usually takes two years for the credit bureau to update your demographic information. Therefore, if you have moved recently let the financing companies know that so that you are not denied because your demographic information does not match up.

If you do not meet the above-listed requirements you may be able to use a co-applicant who does. If you decide to go this route, make sure that co-applicant can get to your Doctor’s office, because most time they will have to present ID and sign the paperwork in person.

Remember to ask how long the approval is good for. Some companies the approval may only be good for as little as 90 days, so make sure you check with the lender.

Most companies will have an answer to you of yea or nay within 48 hours. Good luck and please contact us at 678-205-8400 if you have additional questions.

What about hydrogel injections (for buttock augmentation)? are they illegal!

posted by tim

Thank you for bringing up this question. This is such a hot topic right now. Hydrogel injection for tissue augmentation is not illegal. Plastic surgeons frequently inject hydrogels in the face and lips to correct thin lips and signs of facial aging. Some of the most popular hyrogels in this country are Juvederm© and Restylane©. There are longer lasting fillers like Radiesse© and collagen. They come in 1 cc syringes and generally cost well over $500 per syringe. Depending on the hydrogel used, the results can last up to a year.

Using a hydrogel for buttock augmentation is impractical at best. Hydrogels are NOT approved by the FDA for this purpose. When I perform the Brazilian micro-fat transfer for buttock augmentation here in Atlanta, I generally will inject 1600 to 2000 cc of fat. Even if I were to inject this amount of hydrogel, it would cost upwards of $1,000,000 for the product alone and the results would only last up to 1 year. Because fat is found naturally in the body, it is the perfect substance to use to bulk up the buttocks and create a natural contour. Hydrogels are bulky and it takes experience and expertise to create a smooth contour – even when used in the small amounts injected into the face.

From looking on the internet and the news, I am aware that there is a black market at play. Non-licensed people are injecting a “hydrogel” into people’s buttocks for $2000-$3000. This is a crime. Non-licensed personnel are not allowed to perform medical procedures. Next, you have to ask yourself “how are they able to do it for such a low price?” I would be seriously concerned about the impurities and possible contamination of this hydrogel.

If you are set on having hydrogel injections, you need to ask the practitioner several questions: (1) Are you currently licensed to practice medicine (MD or DO) in the United States? (2) Are you a board certified plastic surgeon? (3) Is this hydrogel currently approved by the FDA for buttock augmentation? (4) How long does this product last? (5) What happens if I have a complication? (6) At which local hospital do you have admitting privileges?

Also, ask yourself the following questions: (1) Does the person performing the procedure appear to be legitimate? (Are they a part of the community? Are they easily accessible? Do they have a website and published phone number? What medical school and residency program did they graduate from?) (2) Do I feel safe? (Is the procedure performed in a medical office under sterile conditions? If something were to go wrong, do they have life saving equipment in their office?)

Remember, you only have one body so choose wisely. Please view the following link for more insight.

How do I know if I need a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction?

posted by tim

Many patients are confused about whether they need a tummy tuck or liposuction. It is easy to think about it like this. Liposuction is a volume reduction operation, while a tummy tuck is a skin and abdominal wall tightening operation. If you have good skin quality and muscle tone, but just have a small area of stubborn fat that is resistance to diet and exercise, then you are probably a candidate for liposuction. However, If you have poor skin quality (stretch marks) and a weak abdominal wall (from pregnancy) then you are most likely a candidate for a tummy tuck. Depending on your particular case, your plastic surgeon may suggest a combination of liposuction and tummy tuck to achieve the desired result.

Before your consultation, look at yourself in the mirror. Decide what bothers you the most. Determine if you just want to rejuvenate your abdomen, or if you also want to improve you love handles and upper back roll. If you let your plastic surgeon know your priorities up front, he/she will be in a better position to design a solution that meets your goals and your budget. Hope this Helps. Thanks

Tummy Tuck: When is it Safe to Exercise

In general, I tell my patient that they can do light exercise (treadmill, etc) 4 weeks after a tummy tuck. I prefer that my patient wait 6-8 weeks before doing any strenuous exercise.

Breast Reduction: will Pregnancy Ruin my Results.

posted by tim

There is a high likelihood that pregnancy will alter your results. It should not interfere with healing, but because your procedure was so recent, it may make my scars wider and more visible and may make your breasts larger. BUT all of these things can be fixed. FOR NOW, have fun being a mommy. Congratulations.

How much does a Mommy makeover cost?

posted by tim

It is impossible to give you the exact cost of a Mommy Makeover because it entail so many variables. If your breast lack fullness, then you may only need a breast augmentation; but if they are saggy or your nipples point downward, you may also want a breast lift. Some people only need a c-section scar revision, while others need a full tummy tuck and liposuction in various places. The bottom line is that everyone is different. Before going to see you plastic surgeon, figure out what bothers you and rank them according to importance. Next, find a plastic surgeon who you feel comfortable with. Look at their before and after photos. Remember, Choose your plastic surgeon based on technical skill, bedside manner and patient outcomes. Never pick a surgeon based on price.

Hope that helps

Under the knife: Local woman feels more confident post-surgery

Julie Stein said she never enjoyed shopping for clothes. The Alpharetta mother of two said she was very self conscious about not being able to fit into dresses and shirts.

“I always kept waiting to hit puberty and it never seemed to happen,” said Stein.

At 5-foot 3-inches tall and 105 pounds, Stein was small-framed. She wore a size AA bra and wanted to feel more feminine.

“This is a part of my body that I’m sensitive about…it’s a womanly thing,” said Stein, 40.

She started researching breast augmentation surgery – the good, the bad and everything in between. She began researching doctors, as well.

A co-worker of Stein’s couldn’t stop talking about a tummy-tuck procedure she underwent with Dr. Andrew Jimerson at Advanced Plastic Surgery Solutions in Suwanee.

“After she recommended Dr. Jimerson, I went for a consultation and learned about his background,” said Stein. “I was really impressed. He really does aim to please the patient.”

Stein went under the knife in December 2007 for breast augmentation surgery, increasing her breast size to a B-cup.

“I didn’t want melons,” she laughed. “I didn’t want to look top-heavy. Dr. Jimerson took my needs into consideration and knew that I wanted a subtle, but noticeable change.”

The outpatient breast augmentation was Stein’s first cosmetic procedure.

“I was a little nervous,” she said. “I researched a lot of information – all about what can happen, the good, the bad and the after effects of surgery. But (Dr. Jimerson) assured me of the chances of something (bad) happening was very, very low.”

Stein opted for silicone breast implants, which cost about $5,000.

“They’re more of a natural feel,” she said. “They’re soft and about as natural as you can get.”

Post-surgery, Stein said she felt pain and engorged. But with proper pain medication and a specialty post-surgical bra, she said her recovery was quick.

“I saw results pretty quickly, too,” said Stein. “Within a couple of weeks I felt much better.”

Two years after surgery, Stein said she couldn’t be happier.

“The best part was shopping for a dress for a black tie affair that I attended about a month after my surgery,” said Stein. “I wasn’t limited to what I could try on and I fit into all kinds of dresses. And, anyone that doesn’t know couldn’t guess that I’ve had surgery.”

Stein said she recommends that women who are interested in having cosmetic procedures should do their research and consult with a physician.

Natural Looking Breast Implants

Dual Plane Breast Technique

Breast Augmentation

If you are lacking fullness in your breast, than Breast Augmentation is a great procedure to help accomplish this goal. Breast Augmentation helps to fill out the breast with implants. Breast Augmentation does not in general change the shape of your breast or improve significant sagging.

There are several ways to place the implants. Dr. Jimerson performs the Dual Plane technique due to the fact that this technique is fantastic at achieving very realistic and natural looking breast.

What is Dual Plane?

Breast AugmentationBreast Augmentation

Patient 6 weeks and 3 months after dual plane procedure. Very natural looking breasts.

With dual plane Dr. Jimerson positions the implants partially below the pectoralis major muscle (submuscular) which covers the upper half of the implant, and leaves the bottom half of the implant free to descend under the natural breast (subglandular) at the same time hence the name dual plane.

This technique gives the implant better coverage, especially if you have little to no breast tissue, and gives the breast a more natural look. It also can help lift breast that have a very mild case of breast sagging (ptosis). This method will not help lift breast with significant sagging. This requires a breast lift.

Another advantage of this approach is that it allows for practically no rippling, decreases the likelihood of the breast falling of the implant and a lessens the risk of capsular contraction. With the placement of the implant partially under the muscle it gives the implant more support than a subglandular placement.

The first picture shows a patient who came to Dr. Jimerson for implant removal/replacement and a lift, due to the fact that her breasts were falling off her current implants.

The second picture shows the patient 6 weeks after Dr. Jimerson performed a lift and removed and replaced her old implants performing the dual plane technique

The dual plane technique creates very natural and realistic looking breast. By partially placing the implant below the muscle it helps to hold the upper half of the implant up, creating a realistic natural slope and the lower half of the implant is able to slide into the breast pocket creating natural roundness and fullness on the lower half of the breast. This approach creates beautiful natural looking breast instead of obviously enhanced breast.
