Breast Augmentation Procedure Overview
Time involved, anesthesia, recovery time and other things involved in breast augmentation:
- Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia.
- Most patients go home the same day
- It is not safe to operate on you if you are a smoker. I insist that my breast augmentation patients stop smoking at least one month prior to and for one month after surgery. Smoking greatly increases the risk of anesthesia and impedes healing after breast implants.
After your breast augmentation surgery:
- You will need to wear a bra around the clock for the first 2 weeks following breast augmentation.
- You should expect mild to moderate pain during the first week after your breast augmentation. This is easily controlled with prescription pain medication.
- You can resume normal daily activities after 1-2 weeks and can start exercising after 4-6 weeks.
Your new look:
- You will have fuller, more shapely breasts immediately following your breast augmentation
- Your implants may take several weeks to settle into their permanent position
- Many women combine breast augmentation with other cosmetic procedures such as breast lift, tummy tuck or liposuction for full body contouring
