During your breast reduction I will make an incision around your areola (the pigmented skin around the nipple) and another vertical incision to the breast crease. Sometimes a third incision is needed. During our initial consultation we will discuss which surgical technique is appropriate for you. A breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia and most patients can go home the same day. During the first week after breast reduction you should expect swelling. Most of my patients have mild to moderate pain that is easily controlled by prescription pain medicine. You can resume normal daily activities after 2 weeks and can start exercising after 4-6 weeks. Although the initial result is quite dramatic, you will continue to notice gradual improvement in the size and shape of your breasts over the 6-12 months after surgery while swelling is slowly going down.
