Is taking diet pills like Phentermine and getting a tummy tuck safe?

Posted by Andrew Jimerson II, M.D. on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at 6:41 pm

I do not advised continuing to take any diet pills prior to surgery. These pill can cause high blood pressure and a high heart rate during surgery. I instruct patients to stop taking these medications 2-4 weeks before having surgery.

Also, I do not advise dieting prior to surgery. Poor nutrition can affect healing time.
Hope this helps

Julie Stein

Julie Stein said she never enjoyed shopping for clothes. The Alpharetta mother of two said she was very self conscious about not being able to fit into dresses and shirts.

“I always kept waiting to hit puberty and it never seemed to happen,” said Stein.

At 5-foot 3-inches tall and 105 pounds, Stein was small-framed. She wore a size AA bra and wanted to feel more feminine.

“This is a part of my body that I’m sensitive about…it’s a womanly thing,” said Stein, 40.

She started researching breast augmentation surgery – the good, the bad and everything in between. She began researching doctors, as well.

A co-worker of Stein’s couldn’t stop talking about a tummy-tuck procedure she underwent with Dr. Andrew Jimerson at Advanced Plastic Surgery Solutions in Suwanee.

“After she recommended Dr. Jimerson, I went for a consultation and learned about his background,” said Stein. “I was really impressed. He really does aim to please the patient.”

Stein went under the knife in December 2007 for breast augmentation surgery, increasing her breast size to a B-cup.

“I didn’t want melons,” she laughed. “I didn’t want to look top-heavy. Dr. Jimerson took my needs into consideration and knew that I wanted a subtle, but noticeable change.”

The outpatient breast augmentation was Stein’s first cosmetic procedure.

“I was a little nervous,” she said. “I researched a lot of information – all about what can happen, the good, the bad and the after effects of surgery. But (Dr. Jimerson) assured me of the chances of something (bad) happening was very, very low.”

Stein opted for silicone breast implants, which cost about $5,000.

“They’re more of a natural feel,” she said. “They’re soft and about as natural as you can get.”

Post-surgery, Stein said she felt pain and engorged. But with proper pain medication and a specialty post-surgical bra, she said her recovery was quick.

“I saw results pretty quickly, too,” said Stein. “Within a couple of weeks I felt much better.”

Two years after surgery, Stein said she couldn’t be happier.

“The best part was shopping for a dress for a black tie affair that I attended about a month after my surgery,” said Stein. “I wasn’t limited to what I could try on and I fit into all kinds of dresses. And, anyone that doesn’t know couldn’t guess that I’ve had surgery.”

Stein said she recommends that women who are interested in having cosmetic procedures should do their research and consult with a physician.

Edible Endeavors

EDIBLE ENDEAVORS

My name is ShaVonne McCants and I am the owner of Edible Endeavors, LLC.

Edible Endeavors, is single-handedly owned, ran and well… everything… by me, chef-extraordinaire ShaVonne McCants. The services I offer include Personal Chef Services, Interactive Dinner Parties, Instructional In-Home Cooking Classes and Small Event Catering.

Did You Know….?

That grapefruits are a delicious way to curb your appetite and they help speed up your metabolism? Grapefruits are excellent cleanser for the digestive and urinary systems as well as rich in potassium and vitamin C. They’re full of Fiber (almost 12 grams in one medium sized Grapefruit!) and, regular consumption of grapefruits will also promote healthy skin. Talk about a super fruit!!

Don’t worry, I didn’t know those facts either until I decided to make living healthier and happier a conscious focus of my “everyday” life. This new-found focus is how I came into Personal Cheffing and into the Advanced Plastic Surgery Solutions (APSS) family.

I met Dr Jimerson and his wonderful staff via a friend that was excited about having liposuction before her wedding day. She knew I was transitioning from losing a massive amount of weight, so she explained how easy he was to talk to and how comfortable she felt around him. I made an appointment for a consultation and I was sold as soon as I met him. He confirmed everything that she told me.

It’s been a little over two years since my first consultation with Dr Jimerson and my initial trek on this voyage to recoup what years of “ignorant eating” took from me and I’m still ecstatic with my decision to go with APSS!

A little about ShaVonne

It is my love of food, the pleasure it brings to others and the desire to honor the many women that have come before me, that allows me to create my “Masterpiece Meals®” with the vigor and zeal that sets me apart from the masses.

My mission with Edible Endeavors is to build a long-term growth oriented organization focused on positive partnerships with clients, venues, partnering businesses, entrepreneurs, and the community. GO FOR THE GOLD

Fractional co2 laser

Laser resurfacing is necessary when you live in a sunny climate. The beauty and the harshness of the Georgia sun means that eventually women of lighter complexion will need treatment for wrinkles because the exposure to sun and pollution, destroys collagen which is the main protein of connective tissue that keeps skin plump and line-free.

Fractional Co2 Laser is a skin-resurfacing treatment that delivers powerful results. The goal of laser facial skin rejuvenation is to improve the appearance of the skin by softening deep wrinkles, diminishing superficial wrinkles and fine lines, reversing sun damage and sun spots, getting rid of precancerous cells, erase acne scarring and tighten the skin.

Laser resurfacing is quick, accomplished in about 3 sessions, with about four day’s downtime. The effects are thought to last eight to 10 years.

Patients with darker complexions are not good candidates because they are at risk for pigmentation loss.
